The Metal Halide 400W Lamp is perfect for use during the vegetative stage. This lamp emits a stable white light with a high blue content, which makes it the perfect choice for the growth phase.
During the growth period plants much prefer the blue end of the light spectrum giving fast upward growth and dense, close internodes which helps greatly when moving towards the flowering cycle.
The Metal Halide 400W Lamp works well as a supplementray lamp when combined with high pressure sodium (H.P.S.) as well as a stand alone fixture for excellent vegetative growth.

How the Metal Halide 400W Lamp Works
The Metal Halide 400W Lamp is a single-spectrum Metal Halide Lamp with a high level of useable plant light, often referred to as photosynthetically active radiation or P.A.R.
The lamp mostly produces light in the blue part of the spectrum for fast vegetative growth and very short internodes, helping to eliminate stretching issues.
As very little orange/red light is produced, it is not recommended for heavy flowering. It will however make exceptional supplementary lighting, broadening the spectrum of your H.P.S. lamp.
Expect greater levels of essential oil production and tougher, healthier plants.
How to use a Metal Halide 400W Lamp.
Metal Halide 400W Lamps use a Edison Screw (E.S.) type fitting G.E.S-E40mm and must be used with a H.P.S. or standard M.H. ballast.
If you are replacing an old lamp, remove the old lamp by grasping it and giving it about a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The lamp can then be removed from the lamp-holder.
Always use a clean cloth to hold the glass of the new one. This is because the oils on the skin of your hands (even if they have just been washed) can cause damage to the lamp when it is switched on and becomes hot. Note that the 2 pins on the base of the lamp have different size rings on the ends of the pins.
Insert the base of the lamp into the lamp holder ensuring that the small ring enters the small hole in the base of the lamp-holder, and the large ring enters the large hole in the base of the lamp-holder. Give the lamp about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it in place (until it turns no more). Your grow light can now be switched on.
Warning: When a Metal Halide 400W Lamp is switched on they run extremely hot. As with all H.I.D grow lamps it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires.
In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
PLEASE NOTE: All M.H. lamps need to be bedded in as follows: on first illumination lamps need to be run continuously for a minimum of 15-30 minutes (although we would recommend that they are first run for much longer such as several hours). This run-in process allow the metals within the lamp to fuse correctly.
FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN LAMP FAILURE!
